A Trip to the “Taal Volcano” of Rome, Italy

Believe it or not, we have something similar to the Taal Volcano (a volcanic lake, situated in the Philippines, that has another volcano inside) close to Rome: it’s a volcanic (a dead volcano) lake called Lago di Vico, and inside its caldera there is another dead volcano called Monte Venere, which has a small crater on top.

And yesterday we made a little pasyal with the pamilya to this beautiful place situated between the city of Rome and the medieval town of Viterbo, about 60 km North of the Italian capital.

The difference between this place and its Filipino counterpart is that the Taal Volcano is still active and ready to erupt again and again, while the Lago di Vico is long extinct.

The similarity between the two is that, like Tagaytay, the town overlooking the lake which is known for its malamig na klima, Vico is also malamig ang klima and, therefore, a place which is angkop sa “tagay-tagay” (like the tagay-tagay that people do in Tagaytay) with some local vino or wine.

    1. The whole area between Rome and the small medieval town of Viterbo is a very nice one to explore filled with lakes, waterfalls, forests and medieval towns and definitely worth visiting. At least here we haven’t been affected too much by the travel restrictions because we have plenty to see in our own backyard

      1. You live in paradise. We do have great beaches in Italy but nothing close to Rome so we either drive at least 100 km to the nearest great beach (Sabaudia) or settle for the nearby lakes and waterfalls
